The answer to my question is NO, as I discovered when I bought the mouse and realized I needed yet another cable to not only connect it to the MacBook Pro, but to charge it as well. Frankly, I found this to be such a truly awful mouse, that I returned it to Best Buy. Thanks to those of you who answered no, you need an adapter, etc.

with an adaptor, yes. But why not use the USB port that fits the cord that comes with the mouse? If you have a new MacBook Pro, buy a cord that has a USB-C to Lightning plugs or use the adaptor.
