We just bought a Samsung QLED 4K TV. Do I need an Apple TV? null

If your TV is a "smart TV," with a built-in computer, you may not need an Apple TV. But if the TV is not "smart," or if its computer is too puny, then yes, I believe you'll need some sort of device, that will connect with the WIFI signal coming from the router (rented from AT&T or Comcast?) in your home. This device, like an Apple TV or Roku Premiere, connects with your TV via an HDMI cable (which, with Apple TV, you have to buy separately).

The Samsung has build in app like Netflix, Prime, youtube. 

Apple TV is only required if you wish to rent (or buy) movie from Apple or if you have a idevice, you can "airplay" to the picture fro your iPhone or IPAD.

Absolutely no! You do not need an apple tv. You didn't say what model you purchased but most are smart TVs can do everything (or almost everything) an apple tv does.

You don’t need the Apple TV. It’s more of a want. I use it for all the apps such a as Netflix Hulu HBO and iTunes movies. Most modern TVs come with those apps except the iTunes stuff
