I have to update my answer about connecting the Arlo wired doorbell to an existing (older) hub. I bought the doorbell. Yes I can add it to my VMB4000 base station. However I learned that it's not the model of the base station that determines if you get free video recording to the cloud, it's the camera itself. Even though the AVD1001 doorbell is linked to my Arlo Pro 2 base station, I do not get free video recording to the cloud. Minimum subscription is CAD$4.19/month. The only free recording is to an attached, physical USB memory stick inserted into the base station. However you need to unmount the USB stick (through the Arlo app) and plug it into a computer to view the video. So this defeats the purpose of knowing what is happening around the house if you are not home. There is no way around paying for cloud video recording with the AVD1001 wired video doorbell.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can connect your Arlo wired doorbell to certain SmartHub or base stations, models VMB5000, VMB4540, VMB4500, or VMB4000. See here for any updates to these base stations and hubs: https://kb.arlo.com/000062393/My-Arlo-camera-is-connected-directly-to-my-WiFi-router-how-do-I-connect-it-to-an-Arlo-SmartHub-or-base-station The doorbell will be one of your five cameras eligible for the free cloud storage so you can avoid the monthly subscription fee. See the user manual here https://www.arlo.com/en-us/images/Documents/ArloVideoDoorbell/arlo-video-doorbell-um-us.pdf When connected to a SmartHub or Base Station you still get notifications on the app on your phone and can talk to the person at the door.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Video Doorbell does not need a base station as it connects directly to your 2.4Ghz home WiFi network. After the included 3-month trial of Arlo Smart, users can continue storing their videos in the cloud with a paid subscription, which they can view from anywhere through the Arlo App.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It works without the base station so yes you can use with old system but No you can not avoid the subscription
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It works separately from the hub and you have to have the subscription for the doorbell.
