The Arlo Ultra 2 Camera can connect to WIFI without an Arlo Base Station. You can place your Arlo camera a maximum of 300 feet (90 meters) from the SmartHub or router. The maximum line-of-sight range of 300 feet is reduced by each wall, ceiling, or other major obstruction between the camera and base station.

The ultra 2 connect through the base all of mine are wireless, the Pro 4 or Essentials i can connect directly to my wifi or pair them as well with the base. Either way has worked for me. I have had these for about 2months for Ultra2 to almost 6 months now on the Essentials and have been very pleased
