QuestionI know this laptop has access to tons and tons of apps but I'm curious about downloading programs that will work with my portable cd/dvd drive and downloading recording software. Does it download programs like that and iTunes?

- Answer Yes, dvd and recording applications, and iTunes will run, Linux needs to be enabled.

- Answer Yes, a flash drive will connect so you can transfer files to your chromebook. When formatting your flash drive make sure you use fat16, fat32, exfat, APFS or HFS+. ChromeOS can read all of these formats, but I would suggest one of the FAT variants.
