It may be a setting in the BIOS that allows you to reverse the function keys....one setting would have the function buttons behave normally, the other setting would cause the function buttons to behave as: example volume, brightness, airplane mode etc. My HP is like that, I had to go into the BIOS and change a setting called "action key", under the system settings area of the BIOS. Asus may be different, but I'm guessing it is something similar. Try to Google, Asus "action keys", or function key reverse.....something along those lines is how I found out how to fix my HP the way I wanted. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02035108
