• The band does adjust up and down some. I bought them for my child as he turned 6 and he can fit them with them adjusted all the way down.

• The headband is adjustable, and of these would fit your five-year-old. However, from personal experience, I would recommend a $5 set of headphones for a kindergartener as the school will not be liable for lost or stolen will broken headphones.
