Short answer, no, grind your coffee coarser and it'll fix the problem. Long answer, because of the cheap nature, they anticipate most people buying it are working with pre-ground coffee, and the pressurized basket it comes with helps the water stay in contact longer. Downside of this is over extraction and MUCH higher pressures than needed (9bar is perfect for espresso) which lead to still good, but not amazing espresso
