I'm 30 miles away from a metropolitan area, in rural America. I haven't even internet where I live. It picked up a lot of free stations and 2 of the 3 major networks. No interruptions in reception.

You are probably going to require at the very least an antenna with a built in amplifier or an external amplifier, or possibly even a repeater setup. I used to live on a farm in the middle of nowhere and had to purchase a large external antenna mounted about 25 feet hight and and amplifier. Even then depending on weather signals were often spotty.
