“Does this have a trigger to release steam or do you have to “pump” the handle to build pressure and then it auto-releases? I bought a shark with the pump action and it was awful”

No! You just plug it in, push the "on" button and select your level of steam. My old Bissell Steamboost had a trigger and it ended up breaking, so I was glad to see that this model provides automatic steam with a single push of a button.
