I took these headphones on a three hour flight recently where I sat above the wing in a window seat. I was plugged into my iPhone six. I had the music turned up and I could hear it fine but it did not totally drown out the airplane noise. If you fly frequently you may want to look into noise canceling headphones. You may also want to check with your carrier, American airlines domestic offered free movies on the go go Internet which can play through your personal device. Their international flight had a monitor on the back of the seat in front of me you could plug into.
