If you're referring to the fact that the illumination turns off that's supposed to happen. Mine never illuminates unless I'm using it. You can hit start and then cancel and it'll immediately stop with the lights. Hopefully this helps answer your question, I've added a picture from mine as well showing the time and no lights.
