Yes the Brother MFCJ1170DW is able to print in black and white only. You can always scan to PC or media even if your machine displays "Replace Ink. Based on your printing volume and page coverage, you can print up to four (4) weeks in B&W mode. You'll be able to receive and print B&W faxes. If you're sent a color fax, the machine will convert the face and print it in black and white. You won't be able to print on photo paper or other special media during B&W mode.
