“bless whoever answers these questions. I am using this scanner for a book I'm working on. I've been told everything should be of 300 dpi resolution. Im wondering if the scanner automatically scans to high performance or if you must activate it yourself”

Yes, you are able to change the dpi up to 600. Go to the on-screen manual to change this. From the Go menu of Finder, select Applications, then double-click the Canon Utilities folder, IJ Scan Utility folder, and then Canon IJ Scan Utility2 icon to start IJ Scan Utility.Then click on an icon for photo to change the resolution.
