“Is the flash auto or does it have to be manually opened?”

• You have to manually release the flash. It can also be tilted for bouncing off the ceiling. I will forget from time to time and try to use some flash controls and wonder why it won't pop up, only to remember that you have to release the flash from a button on the side. Flash coverage is fairly good though.
