• Yes, but it's not a miracle. It speeds up auto-focus response at the expense of creating potentially more hunting behavior.

• Yes it does make a difference. I purposely used the camera right out of the box to see whether or not the auto focus was bad. It was. I did the firmware update, and afterwards it was much better. So if that is your hold up, I'd buy it, upgrade the firmware, then test. If it doesn't work out Best Buy has a great return policy anyways!
