“The current camera I have has shutter lag -- it takes about a 1/2 second -- up to 1 full second between the time I press the shutter button until the camera takes the the photo. Does this camera have little (or no) shutter lag? (I do a lot of bird pix.)”

No discernable shutter lag. I use the Canon SX series daily - SX620HS and SX720HS.They are rugged, metal body cameras with great optics. Good choice for birding.
