The black area on the lid is not a button, its just a place for you to push against to close and snap shot the lid. The button on the handle releases the lid's latch and pops the lid open. To my knowledge, lid is not completely removable, just pop up. I am very pleased with its quality.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The black spot is just a plastic spot, not a button. It allows you to close the lid without touching the metal which gets hot when in use and you open the lid to add more water or for a similar reason.
