• To the best of my knowledge, yes the Cronus zen has to stay plugged in to play. However, I have heard rumors of somehow pairing it via Bluetooth but the I believe that there may have been a latency issue of some sort. But I am currently looking or into it.

• It doesn't have to but it is recommended to keep it plugged in to avoid delay. There are many methods for bluetooth though if that's what you want to do.
