I'm not sure what you are asking exactly. For playback, the DVD player/writer will only play media/discs that are directly inserted into the player itself. If you are talking about actually writing media from another computer to a CD-R/DVD-R media disc (not Blu-Ray) in this writer, first this player will need to be connected to the 1st computer using the USB cable, then the 1st computer must be able to access the media on the 2nd computer using either a direct cable or wireless connection (the 2nd computer will probably have a drive or folder shared so that the 1st computer can get to the files). Then you could drag-and-drop the files from the 2nd computer into your DVD writing software application to be written, although the DVD writing process will perform better if you first copy the files down from the 2nd computer to the local drive of the 1st one. Hopefully this answers your question.
