“Is this player like a "solid metal tank" (just like all the superb CD players from the 80's & 90's when I was a kid), or is it yet another "plastic box" like most things these days? Also, can this player play MP3 CD-R discs and/or "Enhanced CD" discs?”

Hello. Of the two descriptions you provide, there is some room in between. The DCD-900NE is somewhere in between. We are proud of the build quality of the DCD-900NE for a player in its market position. The DCD-1700 and the DCD-A110 are good examples of the solid metal tanks of the 1980's and are the next steps up in our CD player range. The DCD-1700NE is remarkable value - not least because most of the solid metal tanks of the 1980's in today's money would be priced above $4000, but also because it plays SACDs, data CDs and data DVDs.
