The “Pro” is more because of the camera. It is more a “professional” quality camera and takes amazing pictures and video. 

I’m not sure what you mean by smart or regular controller. 

Best Buy sells the same drone as the DJI website.

The smart controller takes the place of your monitor (either your phone or tablet) and has a high quality display. Is it needed? Not really you can still get around with the standard controller and use your phone or tablet. I have the dji crystal sky monitor which I bought second hand that works like a charm.
If you want to pony up for the smart controller you'll like it or be content with the standard and save $$.

the smart controller is a must for improving flight performance.
It instantly connects to your drone and be aloft in 15 seconds from turn on----versus several minutes with cell. this alone is highly desirable!!!! the display makes flying much easier as it is 2 times at least brighter than cell. it has a microphone and a speaker for live commentary. it can live stream to Facebook with comments/ it has its own power not requiring cell battery. it has its own memory storage instead of cell phone and can transmit this easily hen needed. it has better occusynch for long distance aircraft control and video feed is superior with few or no lapses as with many cells. no fiddling with attaching cell phone in a generic holder. But it is not mandatory and cell phone works well, just not as good. Best buy does sell the smart controller separate but 649 bucks---soon to be 749 or together with mavic 2 with the other controller replaced at less price. btw the best buy employees do not know the smart controller as they do not stock it and it is fairly recent.
