• This cable is to connect a computer with a Mini DisplayPort to a Monitor with an HDMI input. Seems that the iMac does not have an HDMI input.

• I’m not certain about the ports available on an IBM Thinkpad, but I believe the needed mini-port is on the MAC side. I have a MacBook Air, and I used this adapter to connect my laptop to a Samsung Curve monitor. Check the ports on both your monitor and your laptop to see if they match up with the connectors on this adapter.
