Using this device as a forward looking camera presents some issues. Firstly, power for the camera will need to be obtained. To use it as forward looking, a circuit that is energized while in drive (or say first gear for a stick shift) needs to be tapped. You will have to find the circuit. Hopefully, the camera wire will be long enough. This will keep the camera "live" pretty much at all times. Secondly, I can tell you from experience with using it as designed, one drop of water on the camera lens blurs the image to the point that the camera is useless. My vehicle was parked when it rained and when I got in to back it up, I could not see a thing on the monitor except a big blur. When driving in the rain and then backing up, there is no problem with the image as the draft of the moving vehicle helps keep water off the lens. However, when mounted on the front of a vehicle, I assume this may be an issue when the camera is subjected to road spray, rain and/or snow. You may want to do some more research before committing to this item. There may be better cameras available that commercial vehicles use. Good Luck
