Hey there! Great question. ecobee smart thermostats are not directly compatible with variable fan speed systems but they can be made to control these systems with the purchase of additional hardware. To install an ecobee smart thermostat on a system with an Inverter/VRF heat pump, you'll need to buy a special module or adapter. This helps the thermostat talk to the Inverter/VRF heat pump. But remember, setting it up might mean tweaking your system's dip switches or similar settings.
