Yes, it will work. But the dual-band nodes won’t be able to separate out a lot of 5GHz devices the way a tri-band node can.

Having a split level ranch style home, the tri-band device is connected to the router at lower lever, near the middle of the house , and the 3 dual band devices spread to the top level and ends of the home the mesh covers the entire home. No more dead spots, and both 2 and 5ghz radio coverage has strong signal across the home.
