yes you have to purchase Eero system but well worth the price. I have a 3500Sqf home and have really good signal in home and back yard I can tell you its the best wifi system on market well worth the buy

Basically my understanding is the eero beacon only works with the eero system and not with other wifi routers or systems. So I would strongly recommend you call eero technical or product support. You can google their telephone number and call them to get the 100% correct answer.

I have the eero pro mesh wifi system and it is fantastic coverage to every corner of my 15,000 square-feet property.
