Hello Mary. The ET-2400, along with all Epson printers, uses inkjet technology. If the printer sits without usage for some time, you can potentially run into print-head-related issues. We recommend doing simple user maintenance such as nozzle check printouts, which use minimal ink and head cleanings to help avoid ink clogging on the printer. Please see the User's Guide on our official Epson Support page for more helpful maintenance information. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. In July 2022 I bought the Epson ET-3850, which uses the 502 ink rather than the 522 ink to fill the tanks. 502 black ink is pigment-based and 502 color ink is dye-based. All 522 ink is dye-based. But you should never use the wrong ink for your printer. Even though both 502 and 522 color inks are dye-based, they have different characteristics. You'll void the warranty and cause problems for the print heads if you use the wrong ink. My printing needs vary. I may print hundreds of pages at a time and then go a month or so printing nothing. With cartridge printers, the ink would dry up and I wouldn't get my money's worth from the ink cartridges. But with the 502 ink, at worst I have to run the cleaning cycle from 1 to 3 times and its back to full quality printing. It's almost 4 years later and I'm still on the original ink supply. I haven't used a printer with the 522 ink, but my understanding is that it may have a slighter lesser shelf lifehan 502. 522 is intended for home users with lower print volume needs. The 502 blank ink gives sharper text, but 522 blank ink gives better blacks for photos. Use your favorite search engine or AI engine to find further details about the differences. Ideally Epson's site would explain the differences but I haven't checked it.
