Hi Jessica, The Home Cinema 880 Projector has a 3.5 mm stereo sound output port, so it cannot pass 5.1 sound through. If you use the projector's HDMI port for video and route the audio directly to your sound system you will get whatever the system supports. Regards, Mark - The Epson Team.
