No. This is a standard flatbed scanner with the light coming from the bottom of the scanned side of the document. It does not have any backlight capabilities.

I have only had my scanner for a few weeks but no where in the description does it mention scanning slides. I know it does documents and photos. I am still learning the software with this Epson. My previous scanner was a Canon but so far I am very happy with this Epson.
