It tracks active minutes, though it doesn't track slower movements very well. I think it will register both as "active minutes", but you will probably burn more calories than it registers.

Steady activity will start auto tracking (possibly as "Sports", which is how it logged me digging a grave) after 10 minutes or however longer you've set your tracker. If you are having small rest periods between reps, then your activity may settle too much for the Fitbit Alta to detect.
