Yes, you can change bands on the Charge 2. Yes, you can see WHEN someone texts you, but not the actual text message. You can also see when someone is calling you. Differences between the original and the 2: Changeable bands, sleeker design, charger actually grips onto the band now (much better), there is GPS capability when walking/running/biking outside, more options for the clock face, and more health features on the Fitbit mobile app with the upgraded one.

Yes you can change bands with the charge 2 and you can see text messages if you choose.

Change bands is a yes. You are notified of a text--with name and an envelope, but you can't respond. Biggest difference was a bigger screen with time,date,steps, heart rate. It's waaay easier to see in the sun too. You can also set your screen to show what you want. I also found the heart rate to be more accurate on the 2.
