Good day, Nancy! This is a really common point of confusion: “frost-free” doesn’t mean “no water,” it just means the freezer handles frost automatically. Even in a frost-free Frigidaire upright freezer, the manual design includes an automatic defrost cycle: - The freezer periodically warms the evaporator coils slightly to melt frost - That melted frost turns into water - The water is drained out of the freezer compartment into a drip tray (drain pan) - It collects the melted frost (water) so it doesn’t leak inside or onto your floor - Then the water evaporates using heat from the compressor It needs a drip tray because the freezer still creates water during its automatic defrost cycle. The tray simply catches that melted frost and lets it evaporate, preventing leaks even in a frost-free model. - Maico
