Is the app required to operate the dashcam? null

You don't need the app for it to be recording and doing it's thing while you drive. You only need the app to view a live video feed or to download videos/pictures wirelessly in your car. Alternatively you can just pop the SD card into any computer to view the video files also if you don't want to download their app.

Yes, but be prepared to wait 10 to 15 minutes for app to connect. Garmin cameras appear to have a serious problem with the app connection to your phone and it's been like that for years so don't expect a fix anytime soon as they just don't care. Get something else with better software please!
