You should always run updates on new equipment you purchase -- no telling how long they've been in a warehouse. The one I bought in the last couple of updates needed some updates. With the Garmin Express program, it's fairly painless to do -- in my case, install Garmin Express, hook up the GPS, identify the updates to install, and walk away for an hour.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I own a Garmin NUVI 52LM. Two weeks ago I plugged it into my MAC computer to update the street maps for a trip I was taking to Orlando. I downloaded Garmin Express and let it run the update (about an hour). It worked well until we got to Orlando. All of a sudden when we started the car and the GPS booted up there was a dot on the screen and a message that said "press the dot". Well...all the dot did was move around the screen and it was impossible to press it. (like a game) the map screen/main screen has never come up again and the Geek Squad says they can't remove a virus from a GPS. I have removed Garmin Express from my computer as I cannot think of anything else that could have put a virus into the GPS. So...be careful of what you use to update your GPS maps. I don't know if there is another program besides Garmin Express to use.
