• A cell phone is not needed for navigation. If you choose to receive traffic, the Garmin Smartphone link using your smartphone’s data connection is required. If you don’t have a smartphone, a Garmin GTM 36™ or GTM 60™ will be needed to access the traffic feature.

• Didn't need to be its a nice option to have. All the phone app GPS did not function like they had so a dedicated GPS was the only solution
