Garmin's 2017 devices, including the DriveSmart 61LMT-S, receive traffic information through the free Smartphone Link application for Android and iPhone. Mobile data is used as long as the device is in use and receiving traffic information from the phone, however a relatively small amount of data is consumed for this function. If mobile data limitations are a concern, it is recommended to monitor your data usage from your phone, or use an unlimited data plan. A traffic receiver cable, which can act in place of your phone, is also available as an optional accessory. The part number for this cable is 010-01009-02. -MH
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought a GTM60 traffic adapter for mine because I have a windows phone which Garmin doesn't have an app made for and because I don't want to use my data, also this version doesn't come with a traffic adapter like the old models so the choice will be yours to use you data or buy a traffic adapter for free traffic updates.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just bought this unit and still learning it. I love it, and yes it use data but it is well worth it. You can choose to use the data when you need it. The ability of combining the GPS and the phone makes this a dynamic smart fun unit. Also the screen size is amazing
