“it looks like this device does not get traffic w/o Garmin GTM 36™ or GTM 60™. how do these devices connect to the car? how are they powered? does bb sell them? how much $? looks like if u want the T in the LMT , u must spring for this , too.”

I'm not sure, but I think you can use your iPhone to get traffic & then the iPhone will talk to the GPS by BlueTooth.

The Garmin Smartphone link using your smartphone’s data connection is required to receive traffic. If you don’t have a smartphone, a Garmin GTM 36™ or GTM 60™ can be used in place of the original power cable to access the traffic feature.
