“I get that live traffic is through the smart app or the additional cable. So,rerouting due to accidents, etc is only through one of these options? does the smart app use your phone's gps function or just your data. My phone gps function is shot.”

Garmin GTM 60 HD Digital Traffic Receiver Is the best way to go , and eBay it for 40$ opposed to the 70& Garmin or B.B wants On to your? No it does not use your maps and is HORRIBLE DATA EATER IT IS ALWAYS ON ILL EXPLAIN Say your on vacation for a week and your car is at home 4000 miles away the app is still using your data giving you closed roads , and weather , I was astonished ! This means in a day you can prob. go through a Gig of data from this app as you can not turn it off only uninstall it , then reinstall it for your trip as it saves all your info and choices the 1rst time you set it up it is very intrusive into your privacy , it asks for so many allowances , like pics our email your location its a gps if it doesnt know your location omg you get my point . Garmin has become Garbage I have the 61 lmt -s because my wife gifted it to me and it does have a nice screen and resolution plus features but if it ever falls off the mounting cup or plastic mounting dish 4" is what i installed on my dash to mount it it will crack . So do a good job Remember to either turn off MOBIL DATA ON YOUR PHONE IF YOUR USING THE DRIVE SMART APP WHEN NOT USING IT WITH THE GARMIN OR REMOVE IT OFF YOUR PHONE . It sucks that's your choices and you wont get any info on your phone until you reach a wifi spot by turning off data so Garmin is really sticking it to us
