Hello there - This is a great question. Sensor cooking and auto-cooking use differing methods to cook food items in the microwave. Sensor cooking senses a burst of steam that comes from the food item and then determines cooking time and power level based on that information. Auto-cooking, such as auto defrost, determines cooking time and power level based on preset settings and information that you input (such as the food item's weight). We hope this is insightful. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us - we're always glad to help. All the best, Kelsey@GEA
