“With the venting on top, does the installation require an actual vent to be installed inside the cabinet above or is it vented on top through the front of the microwave?”

Hi Interested - Thank you for your interest in a new GE over-the-range microwaves. Our over-the-range microwaves are designed to be vented in 1 of 3 ways. They can be vented directly out the back, through the top (which would require a vent in the upper cabinet) or if you don't have the means to vent the unit outside, they can be vented internally (recirculating) using a charcoal filter. The charcoal filter is included with the microwave. We hope this is helpful! Vikki@GEA
