“Detergent under the clothes? Instructions say to put in detergent in first, then clothes. Is there a reason for that? What happens if you put the detergent on the clothes instead? I've noticed much less sudsing with the detergent being on the bottom, though I am using regular detergent (not using the auto-sense mode).”

I always put the detergent in after loading the clothes, it works just fine. The clothes come out very clean.

We recommend that you check with your detergent manufacturer prior to pouring the detergent directly on your clothing to make certain the detergent will not discolor your clothing. By pouring the detergent in the bottom of the tub, it can dissolve easier and is less likely to discolor your clothing. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

It didn't make a difference. I put the detergent on top of the clothes, and yes, not much sudsing with this machine. As long as the clothes are clean and smell clean, I'm good with that.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Never use the auto sense mode. Then, don't use the powder detergent. Let the water go, and while is filling, add the detergent. I have a stick and I am stirring it up, until it makes suds. I add the clothes after is at least half full with water. Liquid detergent is dissolving better. Also, I am using warm or hot water while I am stirring it, then I turn it to the desired setting and let it fill.
