• Mine slide sideways also. Just mount the vent sideways. Comes with different adapter and may need to cut one to fit.

• Hi there - great question. The window plate for this portable air conditioner can be installed horizontally or vertically. The maximum length of the window sealing plate assembly is 46 inches, which is slightly under 4 feet (48 inches). We recommend checking with your local home improvement store for their suggestions on how to fill the two-inch gap.
