Depress and hold the main lever, but doing so for longer than 40 seconds produces an odor as it the motor might burn out.

Hello, thank you for your question. In order to have this blend without a pulse, just select a speed setting (1-5) and press the "On" button. If your blender is still not operating properly, then we recommend that you clean it in case something is in the blades and stopping it, following the directions listed on page 7 of the owner's manual, linked here: https://files.bbystatic.com/WO%2FDnWr05M7VYSBbNwgX2g%3D%3D/Manual We hope this helps!
