Hi Danielle - Thanks for reaching out to us and for choosing GE Model APCA14YZBW! The temperature control is used to maintain the room temperature. The compressor will cycle on and off to keep the room at the set level of comfort. For reference, we suggest viewing page 5 of the Use and Care Manual at the following link: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-5000439-1.pdf - If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to ask, we are happy to help at GEAppliances.com! Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Your room has reached it's set temperature. If it's set on say 71° and the room has cooled to 71° then the unit will shut down & start up again when it becomes warmer in the room. It is working correctly.
