Leave it upright at all times. Make sure all the water has been drained out of it. I have my spare Hurricane unit stored with a garbage bag over it with the hose off and in a separate bag along with the rest of the window kit.

Although it is not a necessity to remove your room air conditioner unit during the winter months, you may choose to do so. If possible, uninstall and storage smaller units in an attic or basement during the winter months. To winterize your unit, please perform the following steps: 1) Unplug or turn off the air conditioner if it will not be used for a significant length of time. 2) The unit can be stored in a non-heated area, but be sure to keep it upright. If the unit is placed on its sides or back, the compressor could be damaged. If on its side or back for more than a day, leave in an upright position and unplugged for 24 hours. 3) Larger units can be covered for protection from snow and ice. Covers for room air conditioners can be purchased at a local hardware or home improvement store. Be sure the unit is unplugged or turned off. We hope this eases your mind and we're wishing you the best. - Guy@GEA
