“Is it normal for air to come out of the top grill (ie the recirculating vent) even when the unit is vented outside? My hood vents outside and the airflow outside is good, but air still comes out of the top grill. I’m wondering if install was improper.”

Hi - Thank you for reaching out to us. It would not be unusual for some air to be exhausted from the top grill. This is likely excess heat that's generated by the internal components when in operation. If the outdoor air flow is good when the vent hood is turned on, then the installation is fine.
