I would think most smart TVs would allow you to select the same music programs as Google Home, without this device. But if you don’t have any TV smart devices such as a Roku stick etc, it may require some extra sound cable adapters such as RCA plugs to 3.5 mm adapter. I don’t know if they make an HDMI to 3.5 plug. To emphasize, the Chromecast audio routes via a 3.5mm wire to whatever you want to play the sound on.

TV speakers are almost always terrible, you'd be better off just using a Bluetooth speaker, you can get one for approx the same price as a chromecast audio with superior sound to a TV speaker for music listening with your phone.
