If neither of these requirements are met a chromecast won't work for you. There are plenty of devices that let you connect audio devices to your car if you don't have a built in interface though.

The device uses WiFi to receive its content, you could turn your phone in to a WiFi hotspot for the ChromeCast, but you would also need to provide power to the ChromeCast, which needs external power, as well as the phone, since the phones battery would be consumed pretty quickly. What you are thinking of is not very practical.

Please try again later.No, in most cases it will not play in a car because the Chromecast Audio depends on having a direct wireless internet connection to stream music directly from Pandora/Spotify etc. Some new cars have an option of a built in wifi internet hotspot, some phones have that feature. I have heard of people who have made that work on these new cars or by using the hotspot feature on their phone..
