• To watch live local tv stations all you need is a television set and an antenna that can pick up digital channels. Now if you want to stream content from your phone to a Google chromecast, you need to connect them using your home WiFi, but that's not live local tv

• If your home cable service provider has an app for your device that allows you to stream local tv, then you can cast it one of two ways. If the cable provider's app supports Chromecast them you just connect it, if not, then you can cast your devices screen which shows anything you do on your device on your TV

• I have an HD antenna and it works great for local channels if the stations sending the signal are close enough.

• Local TV is broadcast free over the air, meaning all you would need is an antenna. Keep in mind that this signal is now digital, and if you do not have a digital converter build into your TV (most fairly current HDTV's have this built in) you I'll need a separate converter box. On the other hand, if you are able to stream the local channels on your computer, the following items would be needed: A computer, HD TV with at least one HDMI port, high speed Internet, and a wireless router. The Chromecast and streaming device communicate with one another over the wireless Internet signal in your summer home. It is recommended to have high speed in order to view the video content without buffering or an extremely grainy image.

• Well, chromecast just relays signals from a source. You'd need wifi to get the chromecast to work at all, but you'd also need a cell phone, laptop, tablet, or other device which allows you to stream a signal, and then through chrome you can project the signal onto a tv. Consider it more of a wireless connection between your device and your tv, through wifi.

• Depending on where your summer home is, a digital antenna, like Flatenna by ChannelMaster, will be perfect! Been doing for weeks now, and LOVE not using cable!
